On Thursday, September 3, 2020, PowerForward DuPage partnered with the Construction Safety Council and held an “Excavation Hazards in Construction” safety training session at the IBEW Local 701 Union Hall.
This complimentary 4-hour safety training was managed by the Director and Department Head, Lauren Mesich with PowerForward DuPage and taught by Paul Satti, Technical Director with the Construction Safety Council.
With just under (20) IBEW Local 701 members and signatory contractors in attendance, the session provided awareness-level education to protect employers and employees from the risks associated with underground work. The learning objectives for this course were as follows:
- Be able to identify hazards associated with trenching and excavation work.
- Define important terms within OSHA excavation standards, specifically competent person.
- List competent person responsibilities, including inspection requirements, soil analysis techniques and protective systems requirements.
- Identify the contents of OSHA trenching and excavation standards.
In addition to the complimentary training, each participant also received lunch, a course manual and completion ID card. Thank you to everyone who attended and for the positive feedback.
