Debbie Erbach and Jess Mazzaferro from the IBEW Local 701 Women’s Committee recently participated in DuPage Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build 2020, taking place this month in Hanover Park. The mission of Women Build is to recruit, educate and nurture women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable housing in their communities.
Each Women Builder commits to raising more than $350 to reserve their spot to build one full day of the event. Trained Habitat Crew Leaders provide on-site training and all-day guidance, as well as all of the tools and materials needed to complete the tasks at hand.
Erbach was also a featured speaker at this year’s IBEW International Women’s Conference, which took place virtually this month. She was a panelist discussing the benefits of chartering a women’s committee, an effort Erbach successfully led in 2019 when the IBEW Local 701 Women’s Committee became the 4th women’s committee to receive a charter in the IBEW’s 6th District.
The committee’s work includes the Local 701 winter coat drive, serving as guest speakers at local high school college fairs, and installing holiday light displays for Naper Lights, an annual event through the Naperville Rotary Sunrise club.
Thank you Debbie and Jess, for sharing your talent with others and for leading by example!
