Each year, the NECA/IBEW Local 701 Safety Committee invites IBEW Local 701 members and signatory contractors to nominate a member for performing a selfless act or acts of safety extending above and beyond the normal call of duty. This year, the committee unanimously chose IBEW Local 701 member, Michael Holland for this award after they learned of his heroic actions that saved a human life.
In June 2017, Michael Holland’s co-worker went into cardiac arrest on the jobsite and Mike performed CPR on him until the ambulance arrived. Had Mike not performed CPR before the paramedics arrived, the co-worker would have died. In recognition of his quick thinking and training, Mike Holland was presented with the 2018 Selfless Act Award on November 20, 2018 in front of the membership. This event marked the first public presentation of the Selfless Act Award.
The NECA/IBEW Local 701 Safety Committee Chairman, Jerry McGlynn of McWilliams Electric Co. Inc., had the honor of greeting Mike and thanking him personally for his heroic actions that day.
