Voted Chicago’s Coolest Office in 2014 by Crain’s Chicago Business, Titan Electric was the electrical subcontractor for FCB Chicago’s new headquarters. Relocating to the John Hancock Building on Michigan Avenue, this 167,000 square foot renovation occupies five floors of the historic building. Being one of the largest advertising agencies in the world, with offices in over 150 countries, FCB Chicago designed an open space meant to facilitate collaboration and capitalize on the incredible views.
Some features of the project include a two-story atrium/front lobby with a fully staffed coffee bar, multiple cafes throughout, a 25-foot ceiling employee lounge overlooking the city and open meeting areas on each floor designed for brainstorming sessions. The print and video production areas include state-of-the-art soundproof recording studios and a private video screening room for client showings.
Other features include exposed mechanical and plumbing painted to blend with the ceiling deck, communicating staircase and extensive lighting. Electrical was included in the scope to make the multiple production areas, design rooms and studios functional for the client.
Titan Electric’s involvement included the installation of a 60 kw UPS for power backup of critical systems and a total upgrade of electrical services for each floor, including new electrical panels.
Other items included a new lighting system with ceiling and wall sensors to adjust lighting levels during daylight hours, new light fixtures throughout, power wiring for 218 new workstations and power requirements for a new 20th floor server room. The fire alarm system was also upgraded for the entire space.
General contracting services were provided by ICG and architectural services were provided by TPG Architecture, LLP of New York.
