Over 200 students, parents, and area residents attended the 2018 DuPage County Trade Apprenticeship Expo on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018. The event was co-sponsored by the DuPage County Building & Construction Trades Council and CISCO (Construction Industry Service Corporation) and hosted by PowerForward DuPage.

The doors opened to a large group of people at 3:30pm and attendance was steady until the event concluded at 6:30pm, despite brief periods of stormy weather. The attendees had the opportunity to interact with 16 of DuPage County’s building and construction trade organizations and to learn about each organization’s apprenticeship program. Congressman Bill Foster was in attendance, interacting with the stations and speaking with parents and students. Naperville Community Television covered the event, as did the Fox Valley Labor News.

According to a post-event survey that went out to all attendees who had pre-registered, 71% of respondents rated the event as “EXCELLENT” and 29% rated the event as “VERY GOOD“. One parent had this to share, “I enjoyed learning about the different trades, but mostly appreciated the real life advice given by people who do each trade for a living. My son left with a few really good ideas of what he wants to pursue for his future.” Another said this, “Thank you for offering this event. My son walked into the event a recent high school grad with very little future direction and walked out with several possibilities.”
