IBEW Local 701 Apprentice, Chad Rogers is presented with a plaque as the 2023 Selfless Act Award recipient by Debbie Erbach with the NECA/IBEW Local 701 Safety Committee.

Every year, the NECA/IBEW Local 701 Safety Committee invites IBEW Local 701 members and signatory contractors to nominate a deserving member of the Selfless Act Award. This award is given to members who have performed a selfless act or acts of safety extending above and beyond the normal call of duty. Only (1) award has been presented to date.

This year, the committee nominated IBEW Local 701 Apprentice, Chad Rogers for this award after they learned of his heroic actions that saved a human life.

In October 2023, Chad was working at a jobsite when he noticed a change in his co-worker’s behavior. Sensing this person was possibly in the midst of having a stroke, Chad reached out to his foreman to dial 911 and insisted an ambulance be called. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Chad asked for the co-worker’s cellphone so he could look up his wife’s name and phone number to let her know that her husband was being taken to the hospital.

Chad’s reaction was spot on and his co-worker was indeed having a stroke. The stroke diagnosis was confirmed at the hospital and thankfully, the long-term impact was minimized by immediate treatment. Had it not been for Chad’s keen observation and quick thinking, the outcome might have been much different.

Chad Rogers was presented with the 2023 Selfless Act Award plaque by Debbie Erbach with the NECA/IBEW Local 701 Safety Committee on November 21, 2023 at the IBEW Local 701 Union Meeting. His acceptance of the award was followed by a well-deserved standing ovation by the membership for his courageous actions.
