In partnership with The George Sollitt Construction Company, Volt Electric Inc. started work in 2021 on the Illinois Tollway’s M-5 Maintenance Facility in Hoffman Estates. The new facility is 95,797 square feet on 12 acres of land located at Central Road on I-90.
This project is set to be finished in 2023, where it will serve as the Tollway maintenance garage on eastern I-90 for many years to come. The maintenance facility meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification standards, which is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability.
Moving forward, these facilities will serve as fleet hubs, maintenance garages, and offices for the Illinois State Police. The facility includes an enclosed truck wash facility, a salt dome that can hold 6,500 tons of salt, energy efficient garage, and cost-effective sustainable ways to protect the environment and operate tollways more efficiently.
Volt Electric Inc. had previously partnered with Sollitt in early 2020 to work on the M-16 Maintenance Facility in Bensenville. The project was to construct a 95,797 square foot facility along the IL 390 Tollway. When the work was completed in September of 2021, the M-16 facility began to serve the Illinois Route 390 tollway and the new I-490 tollway.
